Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which it may reach another party. By continuing to use Chippewa County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email sent to us long enough to review it and respond. It is not disclosed outside our organization unless we are legally required to do so.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a visitor loads a page, ordinary server and analytics systems may collect technical details about that session:

  • Page-view dates, times, and duration
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • Internet Protocol address assigned to the device
  • Pages viewed during the visit
  • A referring website, when one is supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help analytics services combine traffic patterns, such as which pages are used most and where a visit ends. A browser can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
  • Operating the site and maintaining reasonable performance
  • Directing a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Measuring which information visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material explains how to reach official Chippewa County and Wisconsin sources, including the Sheriff, circuit court, Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau, and WI STAYS SAFE registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a dossier about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted in a tool is subject to that provider's privacy policy, retention period, and disclosure practices. We do not control those terms. Read the provider's policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Chippewa County government, WCCA, Wisconsin DOJ, legal resources, or outside tools. Once a visitor leaves our pages, the destination's policy governs. Review it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may use their own systems to track activity across websites for interest-based ads.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. It may be available to limited categories of recipients when needed:

  • Advertising networks that supply page advertisements
  • Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
  • Outside search providers processing a query submitted to them
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such information is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights depend on the law that applies to a visitor. Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs access to records held by public authorities, while Wis. Stat. §§ 165.83-165.84 govern state criminal-identification functions and certain arrest-information procedures. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public records custodian. You may still ask us to:

  • Provide a copy of personal information we hold about you
  • Correct personal information that is inaccurate
  • Delete personal information when the applicable law allows
  • Honor an available opt-out from covered processing

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised. A new version will be posted here with its current effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.
